I Hope Santa is a Forgiving Sort of Guy

I've been a bad boy. No, I won't bore you with all of the things I have done for which Santa might wish to award me lumps of coal, but I do admit that on occasion this past year I have been churlish and impatient. And I've said a bad word or two. But other than that, (take note, Santa) I have been really, really good and I want you to promise me that you will, finally, once and for all, bring world peace, end hunger all over our troubled globe, give everyone a warm place to sleep, and make teenagers less obnoxious. Is that too much to ask?

I was going to post an instrumental version of Silent Night today that my friend Paul and I had begun to record, but all the time I thought I was going to have available to edit the tracks somehow disappeared. How did that happen? Sorry, Paul. Next year.

I want to take this opportunity to wish each and every reader who drops by, even all the lurkers who never announce themselves, a Very Merry Christmas. You all deserve to be amply rewarded, especially after listening to me rant about so many things throughout the year. I'm sure that Santa will do his best.

Have a pleasant Christmas Eve, everyone, and enjoy the time with your friends and family.

  1. I've got an in with Santa (I should have. He's cost me a fortune over the years) and I pointed out to him that you are really a good guy and he should grant your requests.
His reply was that he would leave your list with Dubya.
But he looked doubtful about that teenager thingee.
Thank you for the good wishes and may they be doubled for you.

  2. I sure Santa would love to grant your wish, except that since we have free will, there will always be selfishness. :o(

Hope you and yours have a blessed Christmas!

  3. Aw, I'm sure you still deserve more than a couple lumps of coal. Happy Christmas to you, too!

  4. Catmoves: If my wishes have be3en delegated to Dubya, I'm pretty much screwed. However, hope springs eternal, right?

Lady g~: Thanks for the wishes and I hope you had a great vacation. I'll be over to your blog to read about it.

Phlegmfatale: Thank you. I hope Santa reads your comment!

  5. Really dug your post on presents or presence.
Happy Holidays to you and yours, and I don't think it's too much to ask for teenagers to be less obnoxious, but you don't need Santa for that:
Just tell them they gotta be ready to support themselves by 18, because you won't any longer! It inspires humility, because self-reliance/survival is a powerful motivator...
I couldn't believe how stupid I thought mom was at 18, and how smart she turned out to be by the time I was 21!

  6. It's been a pleasure and a delight to read your words here and the comments you leave at my place.

May all your dreams come true.
    Merry Christmas!

  7. Nah, I think you already have plenty of brownie points with Santa to worry about a few minor slip-ups. But be careful how Santa interprets Phlegmmy's wish lest he brings you more than a couple of lumps of coal. He might bring 3 to 6 lumps! Story of my life, at least.

A commenter on a previous post was right - you need to experience at least one Christmas in New Mexico. It is a breath of fresh air.

  8. Galt: Thanks, as always, for your interesting insights. I am off now to read all of the blog posts of my blogger friends, neglected for a few days.

Jean: I have pretty big dreams sometimes. Even if only a fraction of them have come true before I depart this earth, I will have considered myself a lucky man. Thanks for the kind wishes.

Lin: I think Christmas in New Mexico would be a blast. Come to think of it, I celebrated Christmas in 'old' Mexico one year and the experience was sort of surreal -- warm weather with Christmas lights, etc.

  10. Thanks, Bob. I got a hug from my son -- infinitely better than just about anything else I could think of.

  12. Merry Christmas, Atavist. The world would not be the same without your rants. I mean, wise perspectives.

  13. Hi Sieg:

As the other guitarist on the "Silent Night" project, I encourage you to do the manipulations you envisioned and post the masterpiece in time for New Years Eve.

The world needs some silent introspection at times other than Christmas, and what better time than the beginning of the next journey around the orb? Besides, we need to seek out what kudos we can get before the arthritic fingers shut us down.

In the meantime, to you and all your faithful readers, best wishes for 2008.

    Paul

  14. Trooper: Give my best to everyone we know out in Western Canada and have a great 2008 yourself with your lovely wife and baby-to-be.

Bellezza: It's always nice when you drop in. All the best to you and yours in 2008.

Torup: Hi, Paul: I'll do my best to finish up Silent Night. And thanks for the kind wishes. In deference to your kind and forgiving nature, I won't mention to the world that I propose calling our joint musical efforts "Geezers With Guitars." Oh... wait, I just did.

    Drat.

Hope you're having a nice visit with your family and friends in North Bay.
