I love Christmas Carols. I remember singing them in grade school assemblies, in church as a child, and at home with my family. All those melodies still float around in my head and, no surprise, I like to doodle with them at this time of year when I play guitar. My friend Paul was over Wednesday night for our weekly jam session, and we recorded Silver Bells on my n-track mixing software. Paul plays rhythm and bass and I play lead. I actually recorded a second, harmonic lead track, played on a nylon-stringed guitar, but took it out of the mix because it made the song sound too busy. Silver Bells should be clean and simple. Although our version of the song would by no means be fit for any stage, I know that you, dear reader, will be forgiving of our feeble efforts. Thank you for that. I enjoyed it very much, as I read the next post.
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family enjoy the holidays immensely!
Thanks, Freddie. Better be careful with those compliments or I'll be doing nothing but post music I play!
ReplyDeleteYou too -- have a great Christmas and New Year and keep writing those blog posts.
Sieg, that was really beautiful!
ReplyDelete...and, one of my favorites, too.
Best wishes to you and yours for a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year.
beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas
Wow! That was terrific - you guys are really talented. I wish I could high-jack the local store sound systems and just play lovely instrumentals like that instead of the same hackneyed recordings we've been hearing there for the last 20 years. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteI love carols, too. We love regional music -- Willy Nelson and Michael Hearne's Christmas CDs are part of our holiday musical line-up.
ReplyDeleteHey -- Google/Blogger fixed the non-Blogger comment structure so links now appear. Hurray!
Thanks, all, and have a great Christmas!
ReplyDeleteLoverly. Really put a smile on my lips.
ReplyDeleteGot a Christmas CD for my new car with an assortment of oldies singing the traditional caroles; Perry Como, Andy Williams, Dean Martin etc. We had a glorious time seeing who would recognize the singer first as well as just singing along.
Luckyzmom: My wife has collected Christmas CDs of all of the oldtimers and like you, we love to listen to them.
