Merry Christmas from The Atavist

It has been a crazy year. It has been a productive year. It has been a good year, overall. Thank goodness for that, because like the jocular Santa pictured above, it means I have been able to keep my sense of humour.

It matters not how good things are and how smoothly things appear to be progressing, there are nevertheless moments that are not good and there are inevitable wrinkles in the fabric of life. When these things beset us, it is good to be able to laugh about them and shrug them off. I usually manage to do just that, but on occasion, especially with my son, I forget the good things momentarily, and let the small irritants that arise get the better of me. I guess that is what New Year's resolutions are for, right? I hereby resolve to be a bit more even-handed with my son. I'm sure that by January 1, imperfect critter that I am, I will have a resolution list as long as your arm.

I am looking forward to some quiet Christmas enjoyment with my family and friends. I similarly hope that all of you can enjoy the season and forget about what is or isn't under your Christmas trees, and think instead about the love in the hearts of your friends and families. Of course, I'm not suggesting that if a festively-decorated Porsche appears in your driveway, or if a sparkling diamond necklace falls out of one of the gift boxes with your name on it, that it be returned. It is just that some things are so much more important.

I wish each and every friend out in the blogosphere the very Merriest Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  4. Thank you, all! It is not going to be a white Christmas here, by all indications, but with everything going on, who is going to notice?
