Christmas Season in Panama

It's weird. I'm sitting on a patio at the Boquete Garden Inn, typing away on my laptop. It is about 70 degrees Fahrenheit this evening, I am wearing sandals and a short=sleeved shirt. Right in front of me is a beautifully decorated Christmas Tree. At home, that usually means that I would only be sitting on the patio if I were insane. Not so here, or at least I still think I am relatively sane.

I could get used to this.

I was at the local supermarket in Boquete earlier today and they were selling Christmas trees, just as they would in colder climes. Stores have Christmas decorations and, although I haven't heard any yet, I imagine that radio stations are playing at least some Christmas music.

Everywhere I look, there are beautiful flowers in full bloom. The rainy season is over and now, with even more sunshine than usual, plants are celebrating by creating beauty for us to enjoy. Hallelujah.

  1. No wonder the toucan looks so happy!

Sometimes, I wonder why we come back from warmer climes at all. Life is too short to spend wrapped up in a parka.

Happy travels. Nice to e-meet another Londoner.

  2. Hi, Carmi... thanks for dropping in. That toucan is actually a picture on my laptop, which was sitting on a table in front of the Christmas tree. The real toucan is a few feet away, helping entertain the guests at the inn.

Maybe you're right. Staying here certainly has an appeal. Maybe though, walking around in three feet of snow every winter gives us a deeper appreciation of warmer climes when we get to wander off to the tropics.

  3. Reminds me of a Christmas in San Diego one year. We turned the A/C on, set it to 62 so we could have a fire in the fireplace! I'll take my cold Midwest Christmas, thank you very much. :)

And thanks for the birthday wishes over on Bellezza's blog. What a treat to have so many bloggers honoring me on my special day. I was quite moved, to say the least.

Safe travels when you head home. I'll be out of pocket for a few days as we head to TX for our youngest's graduation from TCU on Saturday. Proud, but bittersweet, as it will be reminiscent of the last graduation we attended...

  4. atavist, this is my eighth attempt to comment in the past few days. I hope it works! Let me be brief, and say that Christmas in a warm climate is weird. To me. I remember being in Florida where they strung lights around dolphin statues and palm trees. I'd take snowflakes and evergreens any day of the year. But, enjoy it while you can Warm Weather Guy!
