February Blahs

Does anyone else feel the way I do around this time of year? I feel lethargic sometimes and my get-up-and-go feels like it got up and went.

I long for warmer weather and sunshine. Every winter is like this. I don't like grey skies. I count the days from October 1, until I see the first forsythia bush in bloom. When I see those bright yellow buds, I know that there will be warm, welcoming sunshine and blue skies once again and all will be well.

I love the riot of colour in my yard in the summer. I have hundreds of perennials, shrubs of many kinds, nearly one hundred large evergreen trees and a few hardwood trees as well. When everything is in full bloom, I feel that the world is as it should be.

I love nature. I love moulding nature even more. While I am happy strolling through a forest or along a mountain path, I am even more so in a beautifully landscaped environment, especially if it is made to look as natural as possible -- minus the weeds, and other nasty things that unmodified nature insists on including in the scene.

The drive to improve our personal circumstance and the world around us is what gives many of us lifestyles that are better than those of our parents before us. Our children will, hopefully, be better off again and have more career choices and even better lifestyles available to them. That is, unless our economy capsizes and the next generation has to spend decades digging out from under the mess that our generation has created.

Today, I'm not going to take the time to agonize over what might happen tomorrow or next week or even next year. I'm going to sit back, sip on a nice hot coffee and daydream about sunny beaches, blue skies and as many sultry females as I think are necessary to satisfy my concupiscent state.

There. I did it. I found a way to use the word 'concupiscent' to satisfy I promise I made in an earlier post: Ten Dollar Words.

  1. I envy you, Jason. It must be nice to have sunshine and colour everywhere. I've been watching your blog for more details about your life in your new home, things to see, how people live, etc. If you ever run out of political or sports material to post about, some of us would really enjoy the more personal stuff.
